Ears Plugged

My dad is a piece of work and has a number of medical issues. He has had a head cold or sinus infection for a bit now. He has been on antibotics and is taking a mucus medicine to help in that regard. He has been to see an ENT. But his ears are totally blocked and it is a major annoyance. Is there anything anyone can suggest to get his ears to unblock? When he lays down the pressure is less but we can't stay that way all the time. I know that if he could get them to pop it would give him some piece of mind. Thanks!!
