Emphysema at 43 and life span

by patrice489, May 30, 2008 09:05AM
I am 43 and had a CT scan 1.5 years ago that showed small signs of emphysema. The doctor said my lungs were in pretty good shape and if I quit smoking then I would have no issues of the emphyse getting worse. I quit for about a year. Then I get really severley sick with OCD and went bacl tp smokimg. I went from a 1/2 pack a day to almost 1.5 a day as I developed severe OCD where I tried to commit suicide 3x over it Quitting smoking just was too hard with everything that was going on.

With all the meds I take 6 different ones I have gained almost 60 lbs and get out of breath doing the simplest things for example walking to the mailbox.

How much worse could my emphysema be and am  quitting smoking will it give any life years left?  My mother died of emphysema.
