My mom has severe Hypoxia(low blood oxygen level)...and our doctors are finding no known cause. She's been on O2 since 01-24-11...On 02-10-11 she walked 30 ft with oxygen and her saturation level dropped to 66%...She has difficulty doing anything that requires any exertion. While resting her saturation level is strong 98-99%...only when she exerts herself does it bottom out. She was hospitalized from 2-15 through 2-22-11. She had a chest CT Scan, Pulmonary Function Test, Nuclear Lung Shunt Study and one other test...all normal. She has also had an echocardiongram as well as a heart cath and, according to her cardiologist her heart is in great shape. Her pulmonologist told us we may have to wait this one out...that sometimes it can weeks or even months before a cause will reveal itself...I can't buy that answer. I need suggestions...
She's 67, non-smoker and has had a short battle with sarcoidosis. She also has been recently been diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, but it's my understanding that the PSP will not impact her respiratory function.
I'm going through the same thing with my wife! A lot of test but no answers. Resting o2 level fine but least little exertion and she is out of breath. If you get an answer let me know and I will do the same.
I have been going through this and it is getting extremely worse. I am on oxygen at bedtime and had to fight to get day time oxygen. I can't walk or even talk sometimes without running out of oxygen.I've been battling with residual health issues from lyme disease from which I was diagnosed in 1998. About a month ago, another doctor diagnosed me with reactivated Epstein Barr Virus also known as( ME) myalgic encephalomyelitis. I hope this may have been of some help to you. Please feel free to contact me at ***@****, I would be interested in hearing from you in reference to this. If you e-mail me please put oxygen on subject line, if not I may delete thinking it's junk mail.
