Foul smelling lung particals

I am 43yrs old.  Smoked for ten years and quit 15 years ago.  Common molds, ragweed, animal dander and dust are confirmed allergens for me.  My fathers'dad side had colon cancer, my mother passed at 64 from breast cancer.  I recently had a Rapidscan completed for my heart during a normal physical.  Small nodular densities were reported and the doctor felt they were viral due to an episode in which I told him I pulled an old boat cover out of my attic and inhaled a bunch of dust that instantly caused a wheezing reation.  I also told him the cover was full of mice feces.  He prescribed an anti biotic and prednisone.  Prior to and to this day from time to time, I'll have a single dry cough or clear my throat.  While covering my mouth when I cough, I'll sometimes end up with a small green or white mass about 5 mm in diameter that I'l end up catching in my hand.  The odor is horribly rotten.  I've also associated the timing of this with elevated fatigue, tight chest, minor gurgling at bedtime but with the absence of fever or any other symptom.  Is this an infection that I should be concerned with?  Is it associated with the small nodular densities?

Hello,

With your history of allergies you might possibly have a problem with the aspergillus mold specifically known as:

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (a Fungal infection of the lungs)

In some individuals, exposure to these fungi also can lead to asthma or to a lung disease resembling severe inflammatory asthma called allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. This latter condition, which occurs only in a minority of people with asthma, is characterized by wheezing, low-grade fever, and coughing up of brown-flecked masses or mucus plugs. Skin testing, blood tests, X-rays, and examination of the sputum for fungi can help establish the diagnosis. Corticosteroid drugs are usually effective in treating this reaction; immunotherapy (allergy shots) is not helpful.

I share the same symptoms as you (i.e. horrible smelling lung discharge) as you and have suffered with APBA for many years.  I was misdiagnosed for several years. I encourage you to read up on it at:

Good Luck,

John

Go to medicinenet.com. Adenoids and Tonsils Center. It will explain everything to you. There are treatments. Surgery for severe cases. I have had this problem for about 20 years. I have just found out what it is tonight. I also have found out by reading this how it is linked to other medical problems like holding my breath in my sleep, bad sinus problems, fatigue because I don't sleep well and snoring. Yes, it's gross and I have not talked to most people about my problem. It's embarrasing. I was thinking I might have had an obstructed intestine or something because it just smells that bad. When I have alot of it I use my toothbrush to make me gag and try to bring it up. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Nevertheless it's annoying as hell.  I mentioned it to my doctor once and took one to him. He dismissed it and just said that it was hardened mucous.  I am going to another doctor when I get some insurance and ask him what I can do. I may even talk to a natural path doctor. I heard of some kind of mineral that you can take. I may even try that but I am going to get rid of it. For myself and the rest of you.

Hi Everyone,

I've seen so many people here having problems with either a bad nose smell/odor and thick yellow muscous drained down to their throat. I'm sure that many of you constantly went to the doctor and hope to get this smell go away. In the end, you have wasted a whole lot of money on treatment that never help. To tell you the truth, I had the same problem like all of you and I hated the smell that comes and goes over and over. Especially when I was around people, I was scared that they will smell the odor that came from my nose. (Forgot to tell you that I got this problem April 2005). I struggled with this bad smell for 9 months and was so frustrated. I went to the doctors, tried nose drops, steroid spray, colloidal silver and still cannot stop the smell. On Jan 2006, I discussed this problem with one of my distance relative and she gave me a cure in the form of medicine pills. I took these pills 3 times a day for 3 days and I felt the smell was gone. I took this pills for 2 weeks to make sure this smell will completely disappear and iou it did. Do you believe that this smell gone after 2 weeks? I don't think any of you will believe any of this. I don't force you to believe this. Some or many of you may think that I'm a scam or whatever. To tell you the truth, I'm not a scam, I just told my true story so that you guys know that my bad nose odor was cured. If you have any questions about this cure, email me at ***@****. Thanks for reading my story and good luck.

The foul-smelling white or green masses you cough-up are grossly abnormal.  They are very likely due to infection from inhaled mouse feces.  These masses should be cultured, especially for fungi and closely examined for parasites.

You should also consult with an infectious disease specialist.

Thanks for the suggestion.  As I wrote the original note recounting my own history, little pieces of information came to the surface that I had been ignoring.  I am allergic to most outdoor pollens.  Three weeks ago I had terrible headaches and adjusted my allergy meds to counter the new bloom.  Two weeks ago was about the time the fatigue really set in along with a runny nose.  Last week was when I would go to bed and hear my own chest sounds.  Last night the right side of my face hurt along with my right eye.  All the while with no fever or cough.  With my history of allergies, I don't get excitied about stuffed up or a runny nose, I assume its allergies.  Having placed all of the pieces together, it sounded like a nasal infection. I gave my three week history notes to my doctor, she did an exam and checked my Blood Oxygen (97 out of 100) and lung volume.  I blew a 680 and for my size I need to blow at least 630.  She prescribed Augmentin for a sinus infection.  As for the fould smelling pea?  She predicted it actually came from my sinus passage and fell to the back of my throuat during the night and when I got up, I simply coughed it out.

I have the same problem, have your doctor check your throat.I think they call it crypts that are located in the back of your throat ( little holes ) and maybe food accumulates and builds up in the holes, thus, getting bigger and more packed they will eventually come out when you cough or sneeze, and they are white or yellowish in color and they smell terrible ( like really bad breath ) that is what mine is-look around on internet that is how i first discovered mine. I wouldn't think that it would be coming from your lungs, but you can't rule it out I guess. Go and get a Q-tip and get in front of a mirror and examine your throat ( just open your mouth, move the q-tip around on your throat and see if you can find any holes or crypts) that is what i do and keep them cleaned out from time to time, it can make your breath terrible and be sure to rinse with listerine.
