HELP ME WITH URGENT MEDICAL ADVICE

Case Scenario-Am a known type 1 diabetic and hav been on daily administration of Insulin Injection since April 1990 (22 years till date). From 1997-2003,Suffered from TB and recieved comprehensive treatment through an outlet of German Leprosy & TB Relief Organisation. After some tests were carried out on me at the end of my treatment, l was certified as cured of Tb.Am a young man of 39 years with a total weight of 74-76 kg since 2003 till date.
My concern now is that l started coughing again a few mnonths after l completed my treatment of TB.There was a time that some frequent episodes of coughing bouts made me to cough out and sometimes spill out so much blood from my nose and mouth even to the extent that the whole floor would be covered by blood.
Moreover, the cough with so much blood coming out from my mouth and nose stopped about 3 years ago but it happened like that for over 4 years before it just stopped on its pwn.And in the last few years, l have been coughing and it produces phlegm in the form of mucus that is sometimes brownish and at other times with the look of pus.Truth is that the phlegm/mucus smells very badly. Sometimes, l perceive the foul smell around my nose and inside of my throat and nose.
Have done TB serum test and TB sputum test and the result of these tests is negative.Have used different antibiotics without any relief or cure. I cough with some ease but am really disturbed cos its been like this for close to 8 years now.
.Pls help me with a way out.Nothing has really changed about me but the fact that l cough with smelly phlegm/mucus like pus everyday disturbs me a lot.Pls, treat as urgent and important.THANK U.FeSAT,ABUJA-NIGERIA

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Hemoptysis or coughing up blood could occur with tuberculosis. The other causes could be due to lung tumors, bleeding disorders or due to side effects of medications. The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people. Talk to your GP about the other causes for cough in the meantime you could try warm salt water gargles and breathing exercises.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
