Haemoptoe for years now.

Haemoptoe for years now.

My father suffers from haemoptoe for seven years now. Every day a bit, somedays a bit more and sometimes he had pneumonia.
He has had bronchoscopy, CT-scan and angiography. First they saw blood in the left lung, later also in the right lung. They does not dare to cut part of the lung, because they do not know the reasons for the bleedings. He had a severe bleeding for three years. For two weeks, he had another bleeding. He had also a pneumonia at the right side. When he starts antibiotics, the bleeding stops. The bleeding stopped now for a week and a half.
Examination of blood and pathological anatomical investigation of bronchoscopy does not show any infection. We ourselves are worried, because the doctors cannot tell us if the bleedings return and if so, how severe they will be.
Could there still be an infection?
What kind of disease could this be?
Is this a known disease?
Does anyone recognize the symptoms?

Hemoptysis is a condition of coughing or spitting up blood from the lungs, mouth or throat.  Hemoptysis for seven years is suggestive of a chronic, non-cancerous, inflammatory condition, such as bronchiectasis, with recurrent infection.  But, there are many other causes of such bleeding, almost all of which should be seen either with CT scanning or angiography.  Regional angiography (of a portion of lung) might be informative, if performed at the time of active bleeding, with bronchoscopy to identify the location of the bleeding.

It would also be important to confirm that the bleeding is truly coming from the lungs, rather than coming from an area in the upper airway, such as the nose or sinuses.

It would be helpful to receive a second opinion from pulmonary specialists at a regional or national medical center.
