Hard time getting a deep breath

I have been going crazy for the past 2 months with this whole breathing issue.  I have been to every doctor for every test and still not any further with what this might be  .Anxiety!!!!!! is what they all start out by saying!!!!! But heres the thing, I have anxiety medication, and guess what it doesn't help!!!!!  EKG, Cardiogram, lung x-rays, breathing test, blood work, back x-rays, abdomen sonograms, I have been put on 2 different inhalers and still no change. All test have come back with nothing.  I thought it had something to do with my smoking for 20 years but my chest x-rays have come back clear.   I too can not get that deep breath, it seems like it just locks up and won't allow anymore air into your lungs.  I have to force myself to yawn in order to get that deep breath, i'm continuously yawning and sometimes that doesn't even work. At night I sleep like a baby.  When I came accross this web site I could not believe how many people have the same symptoms I have.  I'm sorry that we are all going through this but  happy at the same time to find out that I'm not alone. or crazy!   What could this be?

This discussion is related to urgency to take deep breaths.

Wow it does feel so much better to know im not the only one with this problem! I've had it for as long as i can remember and I'm 20! I feel like my lungs just dont open up enough for me to have that satisfying deep breath. I too have to force myself to yawn and it doesn't always work! I've told my dr about it and she told me i was out of shape, but i know its more than that. I wish there was a dr out there that knows what exactly causes this. It seems to worsen for me when I'm laying down. My chest feels heavy. Its not everyday, it definitely comes and goes but while its here, it makes it difficult for me to enjoy anything! :( i wish you the best and i hope we find real help

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

There is an entity called exercise induced Asthma, here as the person starts exercise, the changes in the environmental air breathed in trigger an attack of asthma, causing cough and breathlessness. Have yourself evaluated for the same. This can be detected by a spirometry test.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

You need to expel the stale air sitting in the lungs.
The Yog Pranayam  will  help you relax and also help with the breathing difficulties. You will notice benefits in days.
Initially do kapalbhati 20 times and anulom vilom for 2 minutes, several times a day. When your breathing improves, do all the the pranayams in order, as described. Come back to report your progress, so others can benefit.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.

Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. Duration upto 5 minutes. For one minute, keep your fists, with the thumb pointing up, on your legs, above the knee, while doing bhastrika.Repeat this with the fists pointing down and thumb resting on the legs.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and hold your head steady. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Age over 15 years -do this for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Age under 15 years -do this for 5 to 10  minutes twice a day.

Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Age over 15 years -Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Age under 15 years -Repeat this cycle for 5 to 10  minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 11  times

Once you are better, continue the pranayam once a day.
Be patient, as the benefits will show up gradually.Only by doing you will benefit and feel good because you are helping your body.

I don't know what is wrong with you, but I reject out of hand that "anxiety" nonsense. That is what they say when they don't know what is wrong with you. I recently spent four days in a first-rate hospital for testing since I was suffering from almost paralytic fatigue. I was discharged with a diagnosis of "anxiety." It turned out I was suffering from systemic candidiasis, an illness that has a mortality of 50% when it involves the lung, which it did with me.

Try and alternative MD. They listen better.
