Help ! Sinus odour

by Despo, Apr 01, 2005 12:00AM
I have been having a severe sinus problem for quite a while now. None of my doctors have been able to diagnoize the problem yet. I was recommended to take mucinex and drink lots of water to alevate the bad breath problem. However, I have noticed that it only worsens the problem. After careful observation and experimentation of this totally opposite behaviour, I think that the bad odour is not caused by an infection or bacterial infection after the secretion. A saline rinse removes the "stuck" mucus. However, within a matter of minutes, I can feel the situation worsening. I belive this behaviour is the reason for antihistamines to be very effective against my bad breath.
That is, I think the odour of the sinus secretion is present even before it is secreted into the sinus cavities. Is this possible at all?
If so, what is the possible course of treatment? treatment with Avelox and Amoxicilline have failed in the past. 2 Surgeries have failed too.
I can smell the odour from the right nostril. A sniff from the right nostril after blocking the left nostril always tells me the extent of bad breath.
I've currently taken to homeopathy. What are your views on that?

From what you have described, it is most likely that this continues to be a significant sinus problem.  It can be due to 3 possible causes.
1. This can be a continuation of a chronic sinus infection that was never fully cleared by the medicines and procedures described.
2. It is a chronic inflammation resulting from the infection that continues to cause secretions.
3. It is an allergic problem, which is making either of the above two reasons worse.

I would get another CT of the sinuses.

Homeopathy may make symptoms get better, but not eliminate them which is what you are seeking.
