Help with myelodysplasia

This is not really a respiratory disease but definitely does affect the respiratory system.  I wanted to know how long does myelodysplasia go on for.  Is it years, months?  My father recently dies from it and no one even knew except for him that he had it.  I have looked at internet articles on it and it appears to depend on your ipss score, but he got like one transfusion and felt better and then about 1 and a half months later he died.  He died in 2006, but in 2003 he said that he hurt all over, so i'm just kinda wondering if it would have been myelodysplasia that made him feel ill all the way back that many years?

Please check with a hematologist and/or oncologist for the answers to your questions.
