How Long???

Hi! I am 34 and have been suffering with this chronic coughing with phlegm for many years and did not realize that it could possibly acid reflux which I had been diagnosed. mitral valve prolapse and regurge is what is was stated on paper.It is causing me sleepness nights sometimes which can also result in me being sluggish during the day. My question is how long does it(GERD) last if the meds. are taken properly and what else can be done about it?

Treatment is given for 6 weeks to 6 months. It gets treated within one week, but medicines are continued at least till 6 weeks to prevent reaccurances.One should avoid carbonated soft drinks with or without sugar, chocolate, Coffee, alcohol and fried stuff. Head end elevation during sleep is also helpful.
