I need your advice please

by Luck888, Jul 30, 2008 12:44PM
on Feb 2008, I cough up dark pink color sputum for about 1 day. then I went to see my doctor, and take a x-ray, the result said, something like hyperinflation. I feel much better after the Dr gave me erythromyzin. but on May 2008, I started cough up the same color sputum like before, then I took another x-ray, and the result said I have pneumonia, then the Dr gave me another erythromyzin again for 10 days and I feel much better, less cough and less sputum. I don't have fever, fatigue or chest pain symptom. Then 2 week ago,  I took another x-ray to see if the pnemonia (pneumonia) has gone, but the result showed the pnemonia (pneumonia) is still there, so my dr. asked me to check sputum cytology to make sure what is couse the pneumonia and she said it could be something in process, I don't know what does she mean "something in process".
is it possible a cancer? how long for the lung for cleaning up the pnemonia (pneumonia), is it enough just for 10 days medicine?

It sounds like your doctor is doing a culture of your sputum to find out exactly what bacteria/ fungus is causing your pneumonia. It could be that the erythromycin that he gave you was not the right one for the type of bacteria in your lungs. Once your doc gets the results back, he will be able to tell which antibiotic cocktail would be the best for fighting your pneumonia and will more than likely change your antibiotics to the correct ones.
Once you are on the right medication, your pneumonia should resolve...
I am not a doctor, just a former nurse...what I say is from personal/ professional experience and is not meant to replace what your doctor suggests etc....
I hope that you finally get on track  with the right meds so that you can feel better soon! Sunny :)
