Background – At 2 ½ Months my son had RSV it took about 3-4 weeks for the cough to subdue. 3 days later my son was seen again for the cough and the diagnosis was BronchiolitisBronchiolitis. After that he was diagnosed 3 other times in a 3 month span with BronchiolitisBronchiolitis. He is now 6 1/2 months old. When the cough and breathing trouble came back again after 2 days of ending medication I chose to bring him to the ER as it appears to me there is an underlying issue.
Monday at 12pm I took my son to the doctors. He was looked over and they treated him with EpinephrineEpinephrine Epinephrine bitartrate Epinephrine hydrochloride Epinephrine ophthalmic Epinephrine-articaine via a nebulizer and monitored him for 2 hours. An hour later they told me he had asthma and it is disturbed by a cold he has. He was to be discharged and put on steroids for 14 days and to be followed up by a lung specialist.
As I was getting him ready to go I noticed he was grunting and his chest was contracting severely. They then administered more epinephrineEpinephrine Epinephrine bitartrate Epinephrine hydrochloride Epinephrine ophthalmic Epinephrine-articaine via the nebulizer and a tripleTriple antibiotic Triple paste Triple paste af Triple sulfa topical Triple tannate pediatric Triple x pediculicide does of albuterolAlbuterol Albuterol extended release Albuterol sulfate Albuterol-ipratropium Albuterol-ipratropium bromide. 3 hours later they told me he was fine to be discharged and put on steroids for 14 days and to be followed up by a lung specialist. I fought them and said NO you are keeping him overnight to monitor…
Thank god I did as Monday at 11:30pm his oxygen count went way down and he was put in an oxygen tent to get him breathing ok. He then had another episode at 6am and 10:30am. At noon they told me my son was good to be discharged and put on steroids for 14 days and to be followed up by a lung specialist. AGAIN I fought them and said are you CRAZY??? You will monitor my son for 24 hours and prove to me if I take him home he will be and not need hospital care through the night.
Tuesday morning at 6am my son needed oxygen again… Tuesday afternoon the doctors told me my son was fine be discharged and put on steroids for 14 days and to be followed up by a lung specialist. Again I said my son WILL NOT BE DISCHARGED until I see him go through the night without oxygen.
Wednesday morning around 6am my wife was woken up by the nurses putting my son back in the oxygen tent. They again tried telling me he was fine for discharge.
At this point I have had enough and requested my son be transferred to children’s hospital in Boston. That ended with the doctor taking offense and all of a sudden somehow I let me primary care doctor for my son convince me keep him at the current hospital overnight and that a lung specialist will meet with us Thursday morning in the am. We will know more tomorrow hopefully. Either way I will be meeting with Patient Relations tomorrow and now matter the outcome I will be adamant my son is transferred. If anyone can maybe provide direction or if I need to take legal action please let me know.
So far an X-ray of his lungs appear to be fine and a Flu test was done that was negative. No other tests have been completed.
