Involuntary breath

Hi, I am a 59yr old male, non smoker who suffers from ARVC which is controlled by drugs.  Over the past few years I have been suffering from Involuntary breaths.  It's as if I have to get an extra large breath which gives you a moments relief.  This comes and goes, but when it is present i wish I could do it every 2 minutes and sometimes I can't and this makes me feel disstressed.  What I would like to know is what is it and why does it happen? I only have to think about it for a moment and then want this breath.  Sometimes I think I may be a bit potty!! but I see other people have this problem.  Any help would be appreciated.

I am a 71 year old female with GURD, Hiatal hernia, sleep apnea with heart disease.  I had all kinds of test involving the the involuntary gasping with no results, which I had for about a year and a half.  .  I had thought for a long time that it had to do with air/gas in my chest.  After talking with my Dr. I am using Maalox plus a couple of times a day.  My chest feels better and hardly any gasping.

Do this voluntary breathing twice a day, and come back with your feedback in 11 days and again in 8 weeks, so others can benefit.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 5 to 20  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 10 to 20 minutes twice a day. Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
