Is chest pain normal

Is chest pain normal

I spent 3 months in the hospital finally diagnosed with Pulmonary fibrosis, I take 40 mg of Predisone a day, mostly my side effects are minimal, besides recently I've been having massive hair loss, and chest pain, ekg comes back normal, I had subcanious emphysema which my doctor feels caused some scar tissue,  and my be causing the chest pain, at first when I started having chest pain it was with exertion, now I get it just sitting, and have been waking up with it at night as well. Sometimes it lasts for minutes, other times for hours, I also feel a more increased shortness of breath than normal with the chest pain.  My doctor has been amazing working to find answers to all my problems & questions, being 27 years old and active I refuse to give up, so I want to continue to be as active as I can, but can't help but worry about this constant chest pain.  Any suggestions would be great.

It is wonderful that you are continuing to be as active as you can in spite of the pain.  This can be very difficult.

Chest pain is not common with pulmonary fibrosis or high dose steroid therapy.  It could be that the pain is the result of steroid induced osteoporosis resulting in vertebral fractures.

The best advice is for you to seek a second opinion from a lung specialist who has a special interest in interstitial lung disease.
