Low oxygen levels (82)

My friends sun (age nearly 4) was sent into hospital with bad Asthma, this has been happening about once a year for the last few years but this time his oxygen levels are staying down around the 82 mark. They put him on the enebuliser and got the levels back up but as soon as they take him off the enebuliser his oxygen levels drop to 82 again. they are not sure what is going on with him. Can anyone offer any advise or has anyone experienced a similar situation? any information would be greatly appreciated........Thanks.
