Lung Nodule

Hi,

Let me give a little background: April 2003 dx DCIS right breast low stage cancer, lumpectomy and radiation treatment.  Sept 2006 dx thyroid cancer papillary with follicular varient.  Thyroidectomy, RAI whole body scan in November which came back clear.  I am female and 49 years old.

During my treatment for the thyroid cancer my rad/onc ordered a chest x-ray, I was told in October it was okay.  I went to my medical oncologist in Dec and when she got all the reports from my radiation oncologist she called me last week and told me to get another chest x-ray, because the one in Oct showed lung nodules that were not on one that she had me have in 2004.

She told me not to worry that it was probably nothing, but those are the same words that I heard about my breast calcifications and my thyroid nodules.

What would make lung nodules appear on x-rays that weren't there two years ago?  I used to be a smoker but have been quit for over 19 years.  Everything I have read online puts me at risk for these nodules to be malignant, but if they are lung mets from thyroid cancer wouldn't they have shown up with the radioactive scan?

I am sorry this is so long.  Any information or insight you could give me on lung nodules and given my history the chance that this is a third 'primary cancer' would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

These are very significant and frightening issues for you.  I would suggest that postulating answers on an email would not be the best way to approach them.  You will probably be asked to get a CT scan or MRI of your lungs if there is concern. I would speak with your oncologist of your concerns and questions.
