Lung Tightness at Night

I am a healthy 42 year old male.  About a month ago, I had a head cold which eventually developed into bronchitis.  I completed a Z-Pack and two prescriptions of Promethazine-Codeine Cough Syrup.  As a whole, my symptoms are gone however, I still cannot taste or smell and I have pretty bad bronchial tightness at night which has made sleeping a chore.  My chest gets tight, making it very difficult to breath and I begin wheezing which leads to non productive coughing; I am not coughing up any mucus.  I am otherwise fine other than this nighttime ailment and have no lung issues even while exerting my self during exercise or weekly chores such as yard work.  Does anyone have any insight as to what is ailing me?  I am at the point where I am considering an appointment with a Pulmonologist.  I've never had to see one before and hope my condition isn't serious.
