Lung operation- Yes or No

I am 70 years of age, suffer from Diabetes type2, arithma, hyper tension and what I now suffer with most is severe empysema. Recent Xrays of my torax/lungs showed a new mole or tumor, which I'm told could be 70% non malignant and 30% malignant. I have been advised to have an operation on 02/02/09 to have biopsy on the effected area and depending on result to proceed with removing any malignat areas and to reduce lung capacity on the badly affected emphysema areas to improve my respitarory performance by upto 15%.
I will require 3 weeks of pre-op special respitarory therapy to ensure that I am in good state to survive this 2 operation excercise.

My question is apart from the high cost of this operation in Chile, at my age is this operation necessary to give me a great standard of life with improved breathing and energy levels, or should I just go on excercising daily with walks, swimming, and taking the many prescribed medicines I have been taking for the last 6 years and enjoy the rset of my life with out any high risk surgery. Thank you.
