Lungs and legs

by gloriabackus, Jul 26, 2009 02:30PM
My husband has blood clots in his lungs and right leg.  He has a filter which was placed in his leg artery so that the blood clots will not go to his heart and lungs. He is taking blood thinners but his let and foot is swollen a lot. Even if he gets up for five minutes, his leg gets bigger and has pain even if he is sitting down.
What can we do to stop the swelling - he is almost all day lying down with his leg in the upward condition....to help the swelling of his leg....he has had stockings for one day, but his doctor preferred to take them off and just keep his leg high.....  Is there any other treatment that could help the swelling come down.  No one says how long this is going to take.....  in my opinion, lying down doesn't help the blood clots in his lung which he got because he had to stay in bed for three months due to surgeries and urinary problems.
Thanks
