I work at the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and we recently encountered a patient that tested positive for MRSA (via the nasal mucus test).  We had to quarantine her bay area in the recovery room and get housekeeping to sanitize all the curtains and everything.  The nurse complained that it was a waste of time and energy because a positive test of MRSA did not mean that the patient had MRSA in her body.  In fact, she said that most people who work in health care facilities may test positive for MRSA by way of testing the nasal mucus.  Is there a more accurate way for testing for MRSA?
