Microplasma?

Microplasma?

Please Help!  My mother-in-law has been diagnosed with something called "microplasma (mycoplasma)". I have a 5 yr old who has been sick with bronchitis /heavy congestion & cough for the past 2 months, and is finishing a 3rd round of antibiotics, is on inhalers, etc.  What is this disease? How is it diagnosed? I've never heard of it. Should I take my child back to the Dr. for further testing?  I would appreciate any information you can give concerning Microplasma (mycoplasma). How is it contracted? Infectious? Treatment?  etc. Thank you.

Mycoplasma infections are caused by an organism called Mycoplasma pneumoniae. It is a fairly common respiratory infection. This type of infection can cause the problems you are describing below. In most cases, it does respond to specific antibiotic therapy. Many people develop wheezing and coughing associated with this infection. I just searched the Internet, and there are several sites that have legitimate information regarding Mycoplasma infections on them. You might want to start there.

Thanks for the help. My problem in locating info was in searching for "MICRO-plasma"  and not MYCOplasma. :-)
