Montelukast Sodium

by WorriedMom2, Sep 06, 2002 12:00AM
Thanks for the reply to my earlier question. Anyway our doctor has put our daughter (6 and half yers) on Montelukast sodium tablets (5 mg) once a day.He advised us to stop her nightly inhalers (Seraflo).

I would like to know how popular this drug is and any stats on
effectiveness and side effects in particular.

thanks.

Singulair® (montelukast) is a safe and effective drug for the treatment of mild asthma.  It can be used along with other drugs for the treatment of more severe disease.  It is very safe and virtually without side effects.

The proof of its effectiveness is the degree to which it results in the best possible control of your daughter’s asthma.  When her symptoms are relieved and her peak flows are normal then her asthma is under the best control possible.  If her symptoms continue or her peak flows stay low, it means that another drug is needed, either alone or in addition to Singulair® (montelukast).
