I have been addicted to Xylometazoline (HCl) containing nasal spray since I was about 7 (I am 19 now). Its been one month since I am freed from the addiction after I went cold turkey. I have used prescripted medicines after going to an ENT. Currently I am using home remedies (steam, menthol steam therapy, saltwater treatment).
My problem is that one nostril is open the other is closed i.e it alternates (mostly right nostril is opened). I have also been getting some headaches with sinuses.
I am really depressed, WHEN WILL THE INFLAMATION (inflammation) END ?
I suggest that you discuss the problem of bilateral closure of your nostrils, with the ENT specialist, to determine the cause of closure, inflammation as would be seen with nasal exposure to allergens or irritants (at home or at work, despite the prescribed medications) or an anatomical problem with your nostrils that might require surgical correction.
It is impossible to predict when the inflammation might resolve spontaneously, but this does occur. While awaiting spontaneous improvement, however, it would be wise to determine if current therapy is optimum (your description suggests that it is) and if avoidance of external irritants or allergens, or treatment of confirmed allergies might be beneficial. This latter would best be evaluated by a Board Certified Allergist.
