Nasal odor

I have a very odd nasal odor that only I can smell.  It reminds me of the sickening sweet smell of dead flowers.  I was relieved to hearthat so many others suffer with such a disorder, because I thought I was going crazy! I absolutely hate this and there is nothing that helps!  Can anyone telll me if this is sinus related.  I don't have major sinus symptoms other than a slightly stuffy nose and this ungodly smell inside my head!

This discussion is related to I smell things no one else does.

You should research parosmia and phantosmia.  What you describe would be phantosmia, but you can find more information by including parosmia.

I have several friends with either of these conditions, and I am formally diagnosed with parosmia only I don't experience distorted smells as goes with the common definition.  Sinus rinses can be very useful.  My friends with it like to use Simply Saline with their heads down (top of their heads toward the floor) or in a bowing position.

The consensus is that these condition most commonly occur after a sinus infection and are caused by nerve damage.  The olefactory nerve does regenerate, so over time this should go away.  Treating your known existing sinus issues will be helpful as well.

Better smelling.
