Things seemed to calm down a bit and I went back to work. One weekend I came home to visit and had the same thing again. I went to the ER and they decided to keep me at the hospital for several days. They gave me a nitroglycerin patch that went over my chest; it seemed to help. I was on a holter monitor for 3 days and nothing abnormal came up. They did a 24 hour urine analysis as well as arterial blood gas tests. My carbon dioxide levels were at the top of the range used. They did a sleep study and said my oxygen levels were dropping low in my sleep and that I stopped breathing about 400 times in my sleep; they said I was experience severe sleep apnea. At this time, I was experiencing severe insomnia as well, sleeping only a few hours per night. I saw a pulmonologist, everything was normal with my breathing tests. I suspected angina or MVP based on some of my early symptoms, but saw a cardiologist, did a stress-echo test, and everything was great.
The pulmonologist said my tonsils were huge, so I went to a nose ear throat doctor and she said my tonsils were the largest she’d ever seen and were most likely causing my sleep apnea. I had my tonsils and adenoids (adenoids) removed; the doctor told me over 90% of my airway was blocked. Since then I have been sleeping 8+ hours per night. I plan to have a sleep study soon to make sure my sleep apnea is gone.
Now it seems I have changing symptoms every week. I had been getting fatigued, dizziness, cold extremities, dry scalp, dry skin, and short of breath. I had a TSH test done; it came back as 6 (my current TSH is 3.4). I saw an endocrinologist, and had an adrenal test done. It was normal and I just went on synthroid yesterday. Last week I had a hypoglycemic experience which was relieved by eating. This only happened once, and my blood sugar levels were below 100 on a full stomach at every ER visit; so I don’t think I’m hypoglycemic. This was following by pain in my right kidney region. I also started experiencing pain in my upper abdomen region. The pain in my right kidney region disappeared after a day, but my stomach pain continued for a week. I saw a doctor yesterday, and there was pain when he pushed on my upper abdomen. He thinks its just a stomach acid issue. He put me on prilosec and is checking to see if I have a bladder infection, and anemia; although I think the anemia would have shown up on the other blood tests done I had a month ago.
My question is what do you think could be causing all of these symptoms? I still have difficulty concentrating feeling dizzy or light headed, cannot do everyday activities without getting out of breath and getting a racing heart, I feel short of breath at rest sometimes, I don’t sweat when any of my symptoms occur, I can see a pulse on my stomach sometimes, I can occasionally feel a pulse in my head and on my nose near my eyes as well, I have pain between my upper shoulder blades off and on, I have blood shot and dry eyes, occasional aches everywhere, pain in my left pectoral area as well (and occasionally in the center of my chest). My thoughts are that I could have stomach ulcers, sleep apnea, or something neurological. I’m worried that I might have to quit my job over this, but think this is something that just might heal over a long period of time. I would appreciate any feedback or ideas. This past year I had gotten into lifting seriously and am wondering if my blood pressure got too high from it as I would sometimes take caffeine before lifting for energy; I also consumed a lot of caffeine to help me pull all nighters to study (sometimes 500-600 mg per day), but have not had caffeine in 2 and a half months.
