Occasional Blood in Mucas

by jman247, Feb 27, 2009 04:18PM
I am 18 years old and i have been an ocasional smoker for about 3 years. I will smoke maybe one to three cigerettes a day, but when camping with friends i can smoke up to 1 pack a night. Last pspring i noticed a small ammount of blood in my spit. I was alarmed and quit smoking cold turkey for 3 months.  About 6 months ago i quit smoking again but developed a productive cough a week later that lasted several weeks. The cough would produce phlegm, usually a yellowish-green color, with occasionally a little bit of blood. I smoke on and off still but last night after smoking 3 cigs i spat in my sink to examine it (a practice i started doing after the cough), and notice a small amount of blood in my mucas. After i took a shower i spat in my sink again but there was still blood in my spit but no cough. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

u should go for sputum test and you must get a doctor opinion. I believe the blood in sputum and mucus often do occurs due to throat infection. But then too u should immediately consult a doctor(lung specialist).
