PFT question

by Duchess47, Oct 10, 2005 12:00AM
I had a pulonary funtion test recently and haven't gotten the results back yet. What abnormalities should I be looking for when I do get the results.  Also, I noticed that at the bottom of the screen on the monitor, in red it said "possible leakage" does that mean a problem with the machine or me?  Thank you

The "possible leakage" most likely refers to leakage of air around the mouthpiece, not leakage of the machine.  It could seriously skew the results of the test.  You should be looking at
· the % predicted of the vital capacity (VC or FVC),
· the percent predicted of the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and
· the ratio of the FEV1/FVC being above 75%.
