I am a 54 year old male. I started haveing a pain below my sternum in the diaphragm area about six monts ago. It usually last about 10 minutes. Sometimes it comes right back. Other times it may not come back for a week or two. Can anyone help?
If your chest is sore when touched at the area where you feel the pain, it is almost certainly muscular. If the pain is not coming from the very tip of the sternum, called the xiphoid process, your description sounds like it might be due to a problem in the abdomen.
You will need a thorough exam by your doctor and possibly an abdominal CT scan to determine the cause.
