Pain in right lower back with shortness of breathe and chest discomfort

by Tracy W., Aug 28, 2006 12:00AM
My husband is experiencing some pain and tenderness in his right lower back. He is also having some difficulty with his breathing and some soreness in his chest area. He was previously diagnosed with pleruisy. Are these symptoms concurrent with that diagnosis and what can he do to improve his condition?

Your husband's symptoms are consistent with pleurisy but pleurisy is a descriptive term, not a diagnosis.  There are many causes of pleurisy and the first order of business should be to determine the cause of his pain.  Then it can be treated.  He should see his doctor, without delay, and have a chest x-ray.  Depending on the results of that, other tests may be required.
