Partial lung collapse

can a partially collapsed lung heal itself and re inflate through care and rest alone. I refer to a case where the lung is slightly deflated around the outer edge, perhaps 20% and about 2 lites of air are between the lung and plura. provided the lung does not continue to deflate can the lung repair the hole and re inflate by itself?

thanks

Tommy Gouranga.

Yes it can and often does seal the hole and reinflate.  What you have described is called a pneumothorax.  This can result in alteration of the pleura with the formation of scar tissue and fibrous bands.  These bands can then entrap portions of lung and prevent its expansion.  This is correctable by surgery.
