Pneumonia / Antibiotics

by Pastahead, Jan 08, 2009 07:38PM
A month long chest infection has developed into Pneumonia. After earlier courses of Amoxicillin, then Zithromax, upon determining Pneumonia I have been prescribed Levaquin, a much stronger antibiotic; But the Levaquin costs $ 264, which I can not afford.  Is there a comparable antibiotic I can take that is more reasonably priced?

try looking for genetic drugs by going in to google.com and type any drug name with the word generic and you will have lots of materials to read and learn.
I looked up the name for you and the genetic drug is Levofloxacin and I am sure you will find it a lot cheaper and can get it in the mail by a canadian pharmacy wich you can also lookup the name in google.com
good luck and get well soon.

Definitely look into generics, they are cheaper. Sometimes drug companies offer help as well. Search on sites such as freemedicine.com to see what companies are offering help. It is a shame that meds are so expensive, I am lucky to have help otherwise I would either not eat or take my meds. I took care of many patients who came into the hospital with exacerbations from their diseases. Many cases were because they could not afford the meds that would keep their diseases in check. Unfortunately, docs would label them "non-compliant" because they weren't taking their meds. Alot of these folks were elderly and on severely fixed incomes who couldn't spare anything extra for meds. A shame I know.
Anyhow, I hope that you get the help that you need. I would also ask your doc if he or she has samples of Levaquin to give you. My doctor gives me my monthly insulin and other meds that aren't covered by insurance, maybe your doctor has a sample stash to help you with.
Good luck and feel better.
