Pneumonia Question

Pneumonia Question

We are in Geronology in class right now and we are learning about pneumonia in the elderly.  They said that elderly may present with out a fever when the have pneumonia, why is that?  What causes them to not have a fever with infection?  Any help would be great!

The intensity of human immune response (our defenses against infection) declines progressively, with aging. It is a normal phenomenon.  That is why you shouldn't wait on a fever to call your doctor, when you have other reasons to suspect that you may have pneumonia.
