Pneumonia for 6 weeks?

6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia through a chest x-ray.  I was put on Avelox and an inhaler.  Two days later I had to go to the ER b/c the symptoms were worse.  Breathing was more difficult.  I was then given an antibiotic shot and a Zpac.  They did a blood test-WBC was normal. I started to feel better the next week.  However, as soon as the antibiotic round was over, my symptoms began to return.  I run a low fever on and off all day of 99.5, have fatigue to the point of needing to lay down and rest.  I was then put on Amoxycillan and again felt a little better.  The follow up chest x-ray showed I was clear according to the radiologist.  Roughly a week later, started feeling the tightness in my chest again, along with a feeling of heat generating from my core, low fever and incredible fatigue.   The chest x-ray showed  the pneumonia had returned or never left (?). Again I was given an antibiotic shot and this time, Levaquin and Sulfamethoxazole.  I have been on this for 3 days now.  The fatigue and fever are still there, the tightness in my chest is gone.   I am otherwise, a healthy 46 year old female.  I travel alot for business so I am in planes and hotels alot.
Thank you.

Hi,
I've had similar symptoms to you, went to the hospital and was put on a strong antibiotic. Things got better for a few days, then seemed to return. tightness in the chest, fever, breathing problems and a lot of fatigue. I looked on a few websites and it seems to be a recurring theme. Some people have had it on and off since christmas. Not sure if you have the same thing, but there is definately something going around with the symptoms you mention. Some have been diagnosed with pneumonia, some with bronchitis, and others with a chest viral infection, but all have the same symptoms and have trouble shifting them nomatter what treatment they receive. The fatigue and breathing symptom with tightness in the chest being the main symptoms.
Hope you feel better soon

Did the doctor's do a sputum culture? It might be a good idea since it seems that your pneumonia is lingering. That way, they would get and idea as to what bug is causing the infection as well as be able to see what the best antibiotics would be. It is worth a shot...Sunny
