Pneumonia vaccine if over 65

My dad has always gotten a pneumonia vaccine, but this year when he went to get one he was told he didn't need one because he was over 65. What's up with that? He turned 70 this year and hasn't ever been told that. Is this part of Obama's plan for healthcare?

Hello and hope you are doing well.

Either there is vaccine shortage or the person administering is not aware of the vaccine protocol. All adults 65 years of age and older need to get pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV).

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

He should get one, even if he has to pay for it. Make an appointment and have the doctor order the single-dose vial, which has no mercury preservative. The multiple dose vials have preservative, which probably isn't harmful, but it's better not to have it.
