Pneumonia

Hello I am hoping to not bother you to much and not sure how your computer grabs these questions so one more time I will try and ask and be a little more specific. I was feeling pretty bad coughing wheezing, bad chest pain. My friend and I diagnosed it as brochitis or pneumonia so I took 7 Levaquin, one a day for 7 days (had it in the house). Still felt bad after a week or so and went to my doctor who prescribed same Levaquin 500 mg for 7 days. My doctor ordered chest xrays and blood work. Blood work was just a little off she said not sure what was high or low as this was told to me over the phone.by nurse My xray reports reads "there is a subtle area of increased opacity adjacent to the cardiac apex in the frontal view only could represent a subtle infiltrate. The lungs are otherwise clear. No evidence for olueral effusion. Heart size, hila, mediastinum, peripheral vasculature normal".
Potential lingular infiltrate. What does all that mean? I will repeat xray in 3 weeks as dr ordered. Thank you for your time

Infiltrates typically mean infection, in your case, it was a subtle infiltrate....not too obvious but there non the less. You probably did have pneumonia, but since you have been on a week of antibiotics, it is resolving. There is evidence that it is there though by the sounds of your xray. It is good that it isn't a whopping infection though...hopefully the antibiotics finish their job :) Are you feeling better now? Any fevers, chills? If so, then I would talk to your doctor to touch base. It's good that you are getting a repeat xray, it should look even better still after 3 weeks if the antibiotics have done what they are supposed to do.
Of course the best person to talk to about your xray is your doctor as he or she is clinically familiar with you, I am just a former nurse so please take what I say with a grain of salt and not absolute :)
Good luck,
Jenn

Think of it as scar tissue, which will clear up over time. How dry is the air where you live? I had to wait for warm, humid weather for my lungs to clear, and with the first touch of cooler, drier air I've found myself again with a cough. But there is no infection now, so it may mean either moving to a humid climate or increasing the humidity in your house. And watch out for mold.
