Pneumothorax § Sleep Apnea

by Ozz, Jun 03, 2004 12:00AM
I am 60 & recently had a spontanious Pneumothorax (the second time, the first being 10 years ago)and I then had the operation.  I also have a mild case of Sleep Apnea & use a c-flex machine with the setting at 7.0 cm.

I would like to know if there are any ramifications with respect to the use of the c-flex machine subsequent to my operation.

The c-flex machine at a pressure setting of 7.0 cm might ordinarily increase the chance of a pneumothorax if there are "blebs" that were not included in the operation.  Blebs are bubbles on the surface of the lung.  It appears that your lungs are not very susceptible to recurrent pneumothorax, considering that 10 years have passed since your last one.  You should continue to use the c-flex machine.  However check with your doctor to be sure that you are using it at the lowest pressure that will control your sleep apnea.
