Waking up gasping for air may be related to the palpitation but could also be a reflection of a sleep disturbance, especially if you are overweight, and if so perhaps related to your palpitation. You should be evaluated for a sleep disturbance. There are ways to do this with in-home monitoring and you should check with your doctor on this. You may also need 24 to 72 hour heart monitoring to sort out the heart rhythm that is causing the palpitation.
