Possible reaction to 'antihistamine cocktail' injection?

I'm a 35 year old male currently taking 100 mg. of Zoloft/day and 10 mg. of Zyrtec/day. About a year ago I visited a doctor for an upper respiratory infection. I was given an antihistamine cocktail injection along with a ten day supply of antibiotic. A day or two afterwards I began to feel like I wanted to jump out of my skin. To aleviate this anxiety I would try to calm down by taking deep breaths. Within a few days I began to have trouble breathing with a tightness in my chest. I couldn't sleep due to the tightness in my chest. After a few days of this I was about ready to go to the hospital but instead I went to the doctor again. That was the time he prescribed the 100 mg. of Zoloft along with Xanax (I took one blue pill before bedtime only). I have had numerous blood tests, a cat scan to check for circulatory problems and several chest x-rays. All checked normal. I also had breathing tests done by a respiratory specialist. I was told by her that whatever problem I was having did not involve the lungs. A year later I still have the tightness in my chest. I was wondering if I had some type of reaction to the antihistamine cocktail injection.  I would appreciate any help or advise. Thanks.

While it is impossible to completely rule out any reaction to an injection a year ago of unknown medications, it is hard to imagine how this could have given a persistent reaction of any kind a year later.  In addition, the finding of the respiratory specialist that your lungs are normal makes this even less likely.  I would suggest that other causes of your symptoms be ruled out as possibilities.  These might include a cardiovascular problem and/or an anxiety reaction.

I had a similar reaction to depo-medrol-and whatever it is, it took about 6 months before I felt normal again. I know the stuff should be out of the system but there must be something in combo of anxiety, etc. that rewires the senses so it takes that long to get back to normal.

Sorry to hear it happened.  Relax , trust the docs and you'll be fine. (I know it's easier said than done).

Peace,
