Preschooler cough after exercise

by phreshmaker2, Aug 10, 2006 12:00AM
Perhaps I am being overly concerned, but my two year old often coughs after she is running. It is a brief dry cough (not deep and barky or phlegmy). She doesn't seem to have any difficulty breathing, not does she cough at other times (at night etc). It doesn't seem to slow her down either. I know that a cough after exercise often denotes asthma in small children, but are there other reasons for this (ie simply dry throat or irritation  from breathing through mouth)? Just wanted to know if i should be concerned
thank you

There are other reasons for this to occur.  I would suggest watching closely to see if this changes and/or becomes a problem for your daughter.  If the cough starts to keep her from doing what she would other wise do, I would suggest evaluating the cause of the cough more thoroughly.
