Protracted Bronchitis and Brown Speckled Phlegm...

by Myk, Feb 18, 2007 12:00AM
My pulmonologist says protracted bronchitis can last and linger for months. How about the brown specks in my sputum? He says it's old blood - my sputum culture came back as normal flora...what gives???
Still producing lots of phlegm - he says it will eventually clear up...I've been on steroids, now my regular physician wants to give me advair... HELP???!!!

Bronchitis can last for many weeks and it can cause you to have specks of blood in your sputum.  It can also be associated with wheezing and chest tightening. Advair is a good choice to treat this problem.  However, if the oral steroids did not work, it is possible that Advair will not work either.  I would continue to discuss this with your pulmonologist.
