Pulse Oximetry

by Homenurse, Jan 02, 2008 01:40PM
If an RN has an order to evaluate a patient for Home Care in Michigan, which has always included Vital Signs, now that we have pulse oximeters readily available, do we need a separate order for checking oxygen saturation or is it covered with our Vital Signs order?

I guess it would depend on your organization's policy. At the hospital where I worked, pulse oximetery was always a part of the vital signs. I wish I could be more helpful...I would ask your supervisor to clarify things for you...Sunny

In WV and OH we have to have a seperate order to obtain pulse ox readings with home visits.
