Recurring Sore Throat

by starrynight, Dec 14, 2005 12:00AM
My daughter has a recurring sore throat that IS responsive to antibiotics, but comes back about every 6 weeks to 2 months.

Her throat gets scratchy, then closes up, and then she has this burning sensation like a cut in the back where the tongue meets the throat.

My best friend who lives in NYC about 600 miles away has the same symptoms.

Another member of the vocal performance department at the University she attends has the same problem.  No one can figure out what the problem is.

Anybody else with these symptoms and recurring infection?

What is it and how do we get rid of it once and for all?

It is difficult to determine the cause of these symptoms from a forum.  Probably working with an ENT is your best chance to make the diagnosis.  Your daughter’s recurring sore throat could be from an infection, polyps or even postnasal drainage from the sinuses.  A good examination and possibly x-rays will help to make the diagnosis.

Someone on this forum suggested throwing out all old toothbrushes and washing all bedding, especially pillowcases, in hot water after recovery from the infection. Apparently this person was going through the exact same thing you are.

I have not had this problem, but it certainly makes sense and can't hurt.

Good luck.
