Respiratory Problem

About 6-7 weeks ago i was cutting aluminum and plastic pieces with a dremel tool for a school project and did not wear a mask. The cutting lasted about 2 hours. Immediately after my lungs and throat were irritated. Since then, I've had a continuous itchy dry irritation in my lower throat and my upper lungs have had a burning sensation. I've had a x-ray and ekg done and both came back fine. I have allergies and asthma. Any thoughts as to what this might be or can be done?

Thanks

Both types of fibers can be irritating to the throat and the lungs and can cause inflammation.  The body can clear these types of material but this may take time, weeks or longer, during which time you may continue to have symptoms.  The good news is that this minimal exposure almost never results in any chronic lung disease or damage.  Inhaling this material is not at all akin to inhaling asbestos, for example.

As in any such circumstance, an individual’s lungs could be more sensitive to the irritant effect of inhaled particles or fibers and, if your symptoms do not resolve, or show signs of improving  in another 3-5 weeks, you should see your doctor and have another chest X-ray.

Good luck
