Respiritory relation to headaches/vertigo

by bbr29, Dec 22, 2005 12:00AM
Hello can you tell me if there is any possible relation to my lungs to my constant headache/vertigo?    I feel short of breath at rest.  And I have a CONSTANT low pressure headache that feels like something is "pulling downward" through the center of my head,  and vertigo that doesn't end until I sit up.    Reason I ask is because when I forcefully take a very deep breath my BP drops and my headache feels better for a second.   Also I get tremendous but temporary relief from holding my nose and blowing air into my ears.    Can this be explained by you?

I am desperate please help  thank you!

The lungs are an unlikely cause of headache or vertigo.  However pulmonary hypertension that is severe enough to interfere with the pumping of blood by your heart could be related to headache and vertigo.  Efforts should be made to determine the cause of your shortness of breath at rest.  Independent diagnostic tests should be done to find the cause of your headache and vertigo.  This is more likely to be coming from a problem in your head, ears or sinuses.

Sounds like Hyper Ventilation, google it. You may be over breathing causing all sorts of problems.

There is no connection between dizziness and you lungs unless you had serious lung disease and were not taking in enough oxygen and were faint.

The relief you get from blowing you nose is also related to your eustacian tube which is most probably blocked, not your lungs.

For me, my sinuses can cause headaches, especially when I'm having congestion due to allergies & airborne irritants.  An over-the-counter decongestant can help me for those times.

I'd suggest you go to a good internist--perferably one who is an allergist who can help you figure out the cause of your headaches & try solutions.  Low grade headaches & vertigo can be SO annoying.

Vertigo can be cause by a virus or infection & can take some time to clear up.  Antivert is a prescription medication that helps some folks relieve vertigo symptoms (tho it didn't help me).
