Rib & back pain

In July I took a trip to Marco Island. The day after I got there, I started having a sore throat. It was bad, just a mild scratchy feeling. The 2nd day I woke up all stuff up. I took some dimeatapp.  The sore throat went away, but was left with the congestion that seemed to get worse every day. On the 4th day of my 5 day trip, a cough started. I called my doctor and he gave me a script for keflex. It had no effect and I was getting worse. Once I returned home, I saw my doctor and he wrote me another script. This time for penecellin and told me to take Nyquill. After 3 days of that, my cough got worse and I started having severe pain in my chest and ribs. I tried to be seen by my doctor again. This time he called me instead of being seen and wrote me yet another script for a double dose of the penecillin. Still no relief and getting worse. Pain in chest and ribs have worsen to the point where I can't lay down. Once again, went to see doctor. Now it's been over a month and he final orders a xray of my sinuses. Results, I have sinus infections. He orders more of the double penecillin. Still no relief. Finally went to the emergency room. Chest xray normal, blood tests normal. I was giving a Iv of a pain killer. Felt great to be able to breathe. After Iv, I was given another antibotic (antibiotic) and sent home. Couple of hours after getting home, the pain medicine wore off and the pain in chest and ribs returned. It's now been over 2 months and I still have the cough and the chest and rib pain. My doctor says I just need to let what ever this is run it's coarse. I don't sleep much because I can't get comfortable. Rib pain is still getting worse. I don't know what to do to get rid of this pain. Will this pain ever go away?
