My niece is 6 months old and is currently in critical condition.  Her mother found her last Thursday, gray in color, her eyes were wide open, and she was gasping for air.  She has had some seizural activity in the past couple of days.  All of the things that can contribute to SIDS, my sister has done...smoking while pregnant, nursing, and in her home.  I cannot seem to find anything about someone ever walking in on a baby in the middle of what would be SIDS.  Any information would be very helpful.  She is baffling doctors at this point.  Thank you, Ms. Beach

This is obviously a very difficult and frightening situation for you and your family. It is very difficult to give you helpful information without knowing more about the situation, through an examination and performing some tests. I would recommend the following:
1)Go to sites on the Internet that describe SIDS for more information about this.
2)See a specialist in your area who deals with infants that have experienced SIDS and survived. These may be Neurologists or Pulmonologists.
Good luck
