Shortness of Breath, Tight Chest, Allergies - Now Debilitating
Here are my symptoms; if anyone has any helpful advice, I would be really grateful:
Shortness of breath. Trouble getting a full breath/filling my lungs. Went from being an avid athlete and runner to barely being able to walk up and down stairs - all in one week. Nasal congestion. Throat congestion/mucus feeling, particulary when outdoors or immediately after eating, accompanied by a deep cough, which doesn't really produce any mucus. No problems while sleeping. Full throat feeling on occasion that feels like I am being choked and a gas is trying to push through my throat. Nose and space between nasal sinus and back of throat feels inflammed smaller passageways than should be, and this flares up when I try to exercise. Usual allergy symptoms: sinus pressure, headaches. This has been off and on (some weeks good, others awful) for the past half a year.
I am an overall healthy 20-something woman, non smoker who has suffers from grass/weed allergies, which would leave me with sinus infections and miserable a couple times a year, for a couple weeks.
For the past half year, though, I've experienced these symptoms in the first paragraph. I've been to the ER, had lung exams, CT scans, chest xrays, several spirometry/breathing tests, etc. I've been on Claritin, Nasonex, Astelin, and albuterol (they thought my symptoms could be asthma). When that didn't work, they put me on Advair and Prednisone. The steroids have worked to clear up my chest a bit so that I can actually get enough air so I don't feel lightheaded, woozy and have a foggy brain, as well as the coldness in my feet that came with severe difficulty breathing, but I'm afraid this will come back. I felt ike I was not getting enough oxygen/I looked pale and tired, so I don't tihnk I was getting enough. All these tests came back "normal", but obviously, something is wrong.
I am guessing that this is all allergy-induced/related since they found no lung or heart damage. I am also on Prevacid for acid since I have a history of gastrointestinal problems (had acid reflux several years ago, and it seemed to go away with Prevpack), but for the past couple of months, I've had stomach burning, and at base of rib cage and between breast bone, for which I've been taking the Prevacid for almost a month now and watching out for caffeine, tomato sauce, etc. - the usual culprits.
Something is causing the breathing issues - allergy, asthma, GERD, a lung issue - I have no idea, but it's completely debilitating to be young, otherwise healthy, and now completely inactive. woman I have been under a bit more stress lately, but it could be just beceause of how I'm feeling (awful).
Any help is appreciated. I'm not sure what else can be done.
