Singulair - long term side affects

by lourain, Sep 03, 2005 12:00AM
I have been on Singulair for about 7 or 8 years.  It has been a blessing.  I've weathered many a cold without a doctor or steroids.  However, I have lately been diagnosed with moderately advanced discogenic disease and moderately advanced degenerative arthritis.  I am a very active person, take my vitamins and eat right.  I'm a little over weight and on estragen which is actually a positive drug for osteoarthritis.
So I wonder now if singulair could be one of the reasons for this diagnosis.  Since this drug is fairly new in this country, not sure how many years - 10 maybe, I can't find any long term side affects of this drug.

However, after reading some of the side affects that others have had, I am relatively sure I have experienced some too such as depression, etc.  Thought I was just blue.

Is there ANY documentation anywhere of long term side affects for the drug singulair?

Discogenic disease is derangement of a disk in the spine.  Ostearthritis is degeneration of the joints, especially the ones that are weight bearing.  There are no reports showing these to be long-term side effects of Singulair® (montelukast).

I started having weakness and muscle pain and cramps.  I took Singulair for about one year.  I stopped taking Singulair and I still have muscle twitches and terrible muscle spasms in my legs.  Wonder if anyone is having or has had these rare but possible severe side effects.  Long Term side effects?
