Sore throat with no symptoms/fever

Starting 1 week ago I got a mild sore throat on Saturday evening. I thought little of it and decided I would still go out that night and party. I had quite a bit to drink, and I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst sore throat feeling I have ever had, which I assume was due to the dehydration of drinking a lot of beer. After I woke up on Sunday, my neck was swolen and it felt like only the left side of my neck/throat glands was sore. I felt much better on Monday, but the sore throat still persists a week later. I had this exact problem last October where I woke up one day and only my left neck/throat glands felt sore, along with the swollen neck and terrible feeling. I went to the university doctors and they gave me a Z-pack, which made cleared me up in about a week. I have not gotten any prescription for this yet as I was hoping it would just pass, but the sore throat is still here and is bothering me, even though I have had no other side effects or fever. Could this be allergies? A Virus? Something I need to be concerned about? Thanks.
