Still feeling poorly after Sinus surgery...1 month later

by efegbert, Apr 06, 2006 12:00AM
I had Septoplasty/Turbine Reduction/Sinus unclogging done on March 3 of this year. I have been having a hard time following it and even before it. It took the nurses 13 tries to get an IV on me, and then they finally had to put me out to try to get one on me, even then it took the anesthiologist 20 minutes to get a line on me (I'm told).

When I woke up, I was very drugged which was a good thing. I stayed overnight because my dr. prefers that, and I was in agony the whole night.

It wasn't until a few  days later until I realized that half of my face was numb. At my first post op appointment a week later, it was as if my ENT didn't believe me. But after examination he realized that I was, in face, numb.

A week later I was still not feeling well, (running a low grade temp, chills, achey (achy), pain) so I called my ENT and the receptionist said that "You should be better by now" So that made me feel as though I couldn't call again.

A month later and I still don't feel well. My throat is killing me and I feel like things are stuck in my tonsils. I was going to tell my ENT about it, but I was fearful of what he would say. Say I complain too much or have to have my tonsils out.

I have a second opinion scheduled in two months, but I'm not sure if I should wait this long or not. I'm still running a low grade temp and not feeling well at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are continuing not to feel well, you should speak to your family doctor.  You should not wait two months to be seen by a doctor.

I hope you are feeling better, siunus surgery is rough and painful, and it sounds like youve been through a lot and just want some relief right now.

The adivice to go to your doctor is good. They may prescribe antibiotics, or tell you it takes time to heal and feel well again, as long as your not having any unusual bleeding there still may be pain and swelling month afterward.

My mother had sinus surgery and was in worse pain than before she said, she was miserable, but after about 6 months she felt better, and a year later she is better off than before.

My father has been an ENT for 32 years, and my mom is a nurse, my dad didnt do her surgery, but Im sure hes used to making a lot of people miserable.

My father would probably tell you the obvious, if you were his patient like, drink sips of water, sit up in bed and that with time and rest  you will start to heal, and dont aggrivate your face and make it worse by overexerting yourself, dont smoke, or drink or keep pets, dust the hose, keep things clean etc,
he.s always lecturing me to get rid of my pets and keep things clean,,,, the funny thing is I dont have any pets....I used to have hamsters in my apt at college, I would get sinus headaces and runny nose and call him for advice or a Z pac, and he would have no sympathy cause I kept pets, hes all about enviromental control,,,,or just control,,, lol

If you've ever (EVER)taken Accutane, be aware that it has horrific latent side effects on mucotaneous tissue and more.
